Fellow in the Sparkling Tree
by Harry Leonard

whispered fellow
in the sparkling tree,
"I'm neither up nor down -
but somewhere in between."

whispered I
upon the ground,
"might you then be more exact
where ought you to be found?"

said he to me
in faintest speech,
"might not I - I'm trying to hide
please leave - I do beseech."

said I to him
in same soft voice,
"if truly now you wish to hide
you've got a simple choice."

and I went on -
sensed hesitation -
"if seeking anonymity
one musn't partake in conversation."

then he was gone
without ado.
silent, still and still unseen.
I knew not where, I knew not who.
